Belize named Lindsay Garbutt as chief executive officer in the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture in a ceremony held Monday at the Belize City House of Culture. Garbutt previously served as chairman of the Belize Tourist Board (BTB), and brings more than 10 years of experience working with local organizations and community groups on tourism and sustainability issues, said Manuel Heredia, Belize’s Minister of Tourism.

Spanish air traffic controllers have returned to work under military orders, ending a strike after the government declared a state of alert and threatened them with jail. The strike over working hours on hit an estimated 300,000 passengers on a long holiday weekend, prompting the government to place the military in command of the skies and threaten prison for absent controllers on Saturday.
