An American tourist drowned in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on Tuesday after a giant wave swept away him and two others, according to an Associated Press report.

Guyana is in discussions with three airlines to increase services on the heels of one Anglo-Canadian carrier filing for bankruptcy and cutting planned services to Georgetown.

Brian Gardiner was named general manager of Belize’s Machaca Hill. Born in Zimbabwe, Gardiner worked throughout South and East Africa managing safari companies, including Abercrombie & Kent, focusing in luxury environmental escapes.

Kayak.com has filed a countersuit against American Airlines in response to an ongoing dispute between the two companies. In its court filing in the Tarras County, Texas, the metasearch engine said American was distributing false statements that were eroding Kayak’s goodwill with its own customers.

The board of directors of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has elected shipping industry veteran Morten Arntzen as its newest member. Arntzen replaces retiring board member Arvid Grudekjoen, and will serve on the board’s Environment, Safety and Security Committee.

United Airlines will furlough 1,550 flight attendants as it reduces flights this fall. That is about 10 percent of its cabin workers and part of the airline’s effort to cut 7,000 jobs companywide by the end of 2009.
