According to the Associated Press, American Airlines has announced the company is planning to cancel service between John F. Kennedy International Airport and Las Americas Airport in Santo Domingo, and Ciabo International Airport in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
Southwest Airlines today began offering for sale new nonstop service between Chicago (Midway) and both Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The flights available for sale now at airtran.com will begin this spring, subject to governmental approvals, and will be operated by AirTran Airways.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States has issued an emergency airworthiness directive requiring all Boeing 787 Dreamliners to temporarily cease operations. The decision follows a similar move from Japanese carriers, with Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways yesterday grounding all Dreamliners following an onboard battery fire.
Air Europa had confirmed it will double its flights to Santo Domingo and will add three services to Havana per week from Madrid as of April 1. For UK travellers the service begins in Gatwick via Madrid with short connection times at competitively priced airfares to the largest Caribbean islands.
Aeromexico transported 14.81 million passengers in 2012, a 3.3 percent year-on-year increase, driven by a 5.3 percent increase in international passenger traffic and a 2.6 percent increase in domestic passenger traffic. In December, Aeromexico transported 1.28 million passengers. International passenger traffic increased 2.2 percent.
