The Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) has a new relationship with the New York Mets. “We are excited to be partnering with the New York Mets, and promoting sports tourism in Puerto Rico,” said Mario Gonzalez De Lafuente, deputy director, PRTC.

Copa Holdings, S.A., parent company of Copa Airlines and Aero Republica, reported net income of $55.2 million for the second quarter, or diluted earnings per share (EPS) of $1.26, an increase of 81.6 percent as compared to net income of $30.4 million or diluted EPS of $0.70 in the second quarter of 2009.

British Airways reported an operating loss of £94 million ($155.5 million) for the quarter ended June 30, compared to a £35 million ($57.9 million) profit for the same period in 2008.

The Associated Press reported that cruise ship crime legislation passed a U.S. House committee on July 30 and is heading for full votes. The measure, which earlier passed Senate committee, would require cruise lines to report crimes at sea and have doctors trained in using rape investigation kits.

Holiday Inn is opening its first property in the Maldives. The 117-room Holiday Inn Malé will open in the Maldives capital on Sept. 1.
