Cruise Crime Reporting Legislation Passes House Committee

The Associated Press reported that cruise ship crime legislation passed a U.S. House committee on July 30 and is heading for full votes. The measure, which earlier passed Senate committee, would require cruise lines to report crimes at sea and have doctors trained in using rape investigation kits.

The Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act was sponsored by Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and California Rep. Doris Matsui after they heard from constituents who allegedly had family members lost or attacked on ships.
