Ambassadors International Inc. reported a third-quarter loss of $34.7 million as compared to net income of $9 million during the same period last year. For the three months ended Sept. 30, operating revenues totaled $17.4 million, a reduction of $41.3 million from $58.7 million reported last year.

The U.S. Travel Association said that modest projected 2010 increases in leisure, business and international inbound travel will enable the industry to add nearly 90,000 American jobs.

Orient-Express Hotels has appointed Sven Gevers as the new general manager of its La Residencia hotel, located in the foothills of Mallorca’s northwest coast. Mr. Gevers joins the La Residencia team from Kempinski Hotels, where he spent four years as managing director of the Kempinski Hotel Bahia in Estepona.

The UK government’s decision to hike Air Passenger Duty has been described as “schizophrenic” by the UN World Tourism Organization. The charges range from a £1 to £15 hike for economy passengers, to a £30 increase for premium passengers. From November 2010 it is due to rise again –by a further £30 on long-haul economy fares by £60 in long-haul premium cabins.
