The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will begin implementing new enhanced security measures for all air carriers with international flights to the U.S., according to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano.

The U.S. Department of Commerce announced that 54.9 million international visitors traveled to the United States in 2009, a decrease of five percent from 2008. In 2009, the top inbound markets continued to be Canada and Mexico, both of which were down in arrivals along with six of the nine overseas regional markets. South America, Asia and Oceania experienced the strongest growth in the fourth quarter, due in part to increases from the emerging markets of China and Brazil.

The SITA 2010 Baggage Report reports a drop of 23.8 percent in the number of air passengers’ bags mishandled last year, resulting in savings of $460 million for the world’s airlines in a year when their overall losses reached $9.4 billion.

Discount carrier EasyJet named Carolyn McCall as its new chief executive. Ms. McCall had been with the Guardian Media Group, where she had held a number of positions, including that of group chief executive. She said the skills learned at the helm of GMG would stand her in good stead at the airline.

The USS Kittiwake, a decommissioned naval submarine rescue ship used in World War II, will be sunk in 65 feet of water off the north end of Grand Cayman’s Seven Mile Beach this summer to create a new dive and snorkel site.

Colonna Resort in Antigua, formerly Sunsail Club Colonna, reopened for business March 19 under new management. The property closed in May 2009, citing fallout from the global financial crisis.
