Carnival Cruise Lines named Martin Landtman senior vice president-marine operations. Landtman will oversee all aspects of marine operations for the line’s 22-vessel fleet, including technical operations, safety, environmental and quality assurance, marine operations, budgeting, deck and engine manning and training, port operations, maritime legal and medical services.

The Bermuda Department of Tourism is sponsoring destination-wide romance vacation packages honor of Bermuda’s “Feel the Love Month,” from Feb. 1 to 28, 2011. The packages offer travelers a third night free when booking a minimum three-night stay at 16 participating hotels and resorts, plus daily activities including a “Love Train” city tour, chocolate tastings, a champagne-and-strawberries museum reception, salsa dancing nights, and more.

The Sugar Mill Restaurant at Jamaican luxury resort Half Moon named Christopher Golding chef de cuisine. Golding joined Half Moon in Half Moon in 2008 as sous chef for the resort’s seaside restaurant, Seagrape Terrace. He previously worked at The Ritz-Carlton Rose Hall Resort & Spa in Rose Hall, Jamaica for eight years as chef de partie, assistant sous chef and sous chef, and also spent five years Premier Cruise Lines as a chef de partie and sous chef.

With Mexican cruises slumping in popularity, two of the largest ships serving the Port of Los Angeles are pulling up anchor for more lucrative markets elsewhere. Royal Caribbean said its 3,100-passenger Mariner of the Seas, after a Mexican Rivera voyage that begins Sunday, will leave the Port of L.A. for South America and Europe, ending up in Galveston, Texas. Norwegian Cruise Lines will pull its 2,348-passenger Norwegian Star out of the port in May. The ship will eventually settle in Tampa, Fla.

The Tourism Zone is an idea that was derived from a meeting with cruise industry shareholders about an organizational restructuring process. The immediate purpose of the zone is to establish order. It includes a more organized traffic-flow system to reduce congestion. The one-way traffic flow is enforced from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
