Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina on Wednesday headed the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the JW Marriott hotel in Blue Mall Santo Domingo, built by Venezuelan investor Grupo Velutini. Medina toured the hotel facilities guided by its executives, before proceeding to cut the ribbon for the formal opening.

Over the past 20 years, lionfish, an invasive species, has spread out of control in the Caribbean and seriously impacted local marine biodiversity. Marine Biologist Ruben Torres says that, Lionfish is an invasive species which represents a threat for the waters of the National Underwater Park La Caleta, the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean.

The Outgoing Caribbean Head stated that in spite of the competition coming from other destinations, Barbados and the rest of the region still has an edge because these islands have something exceptional that they can offer both repeat visitors and new tourists.
