Jamaica´s Port Antonio has launched its long-expected official destination web site at www.portantoniotravel.com, which has been designed to promote the small port city and its surrounding region as The Other Side of Jamaica. It includes information on history and culture; accommodations; activities and attractions; travel tips, and dining options. The site also stresses the commitment in Port Antonio -- which has launched a campaign to earn Green Globe certification -- to ecology and sustainable tourism.

Emerald Princess, which was formerly known as the Caribbean Princess III, will be the name of the sister ship to Princess Cruises´ Caribbean Princess, the company has informed. The 116,000-ton Emerald Princess, Princess´ largest ship design to date, is currently under construction at Fincantieri shipyards in Italy and will be delivered in spring 2006.

Air Jamaica is laying off 40 pilots as part of a restructuring program. The debt-ridden airline said that some of the pilots have already been sent home with immediate effect. While others will have their contracts terminated within 90 days. In a letter to members of staff, Executive Chairman Dr. Vin Lawrence said 23 pilots on staff and 17 contract pilots had been notified that their posts were being made redundant.

The media training institute of the University of the West Indies (UWI) is broadening its outreach program to offer instruction in media and communication to workers and aspiring workers in the Caribbean. The summer program will start CARIMAC´s intensified training courses on advertising, desktop publishing, digital video production, public relations, radio presentation and production, sports reporting and print journalism.
