The United States´ biggest hotel college, The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), is planning to open its first international campus in Singapore. It will be geared to meeting the needs of Asia´s booming travel industry, boosted by the low cost carriers.

Dominica has received benchmark designation as a Green Globe destination for the second year in a row. This award comes from the prestigious eco-tourism organization, Green Globe 21. Dominica became the first country ever to receive this designation in October 2004. “We are extremely pleased to have earned this prestigious designation from Green Globe 21,” stated Yvor Nassief, Dominica´s Minister of Tourism. “Dominica remains committed to the promotion and development of sustainable tourism and this recognition helps us promote our island as one of the world´s leading eco-tourism destinations while also helping us to protect its pristine natural beauty.”

Air Canada Jazz has been denied a court order that the regional airline hoped would allow it to continue using the small island airport near Toronto´s downtown core while it sought an alternative site. “We´re obviously disappointed by the outcome,” Jazz spokeswoman Debra Williams said Monday.

Newly appointed director of the Grenada Board of Tourism Joslyn Sylvester-Gairy is promising to engage in a public relations campaign that will not only lure more visitors to the island but one that will showcase Grenada for Grenadians. Mrs. Gairy, who will remain in her position as chairman of the Grenada Carnival Committee, gave the assurance that she will be working to create a powerful alliance between culture and tourism.

Amadeus, in technology and distribution solutions for the travel and tourism industry, announced the signature of a global Preferred Supplier Agreement with ITP-International Travel Partnership, a consortium for worldwide business travel, based in England. Travelscope, an independent operator which uses three ships for ex-UK cruising, is to run five departures from the Humber port this year against one sailing in 2005. The vessel Funchal will offer sailings to the Baltic, St Petersburg, the Norwegian Fjords and a round Britain itinerary from Hull.
