Ryanair, the low-cost airline out of Europe, has filed a further complaint with the European Commission accusing rival Air France-KLM of trying to block competition. The move comes after the French airline took action to prevent Ryanair from using Marseille airport. As per the information available, Ryanair had planned to base two planes at Marseille, serving 13 routes.

Tropical Storm Alberto made landfall June 13 south of Tallahassee, Florida, with far less punch than had earlier been forecast. The storm –the first of what could be a long and active season, according to forecasters- never did make it to hurricane strength, although it dumped heavy rains in its wake across the Gulf of Mexico. Heavy rains and the threat of isolated tornadoes remained real concerns even after Alberto came ashore.

As a result of recent elections in Haiti and Montserrat, two new tourism ministers have been named. In Haiti, President Rene Preval named Patrick Delatour as minister of tourism. Mr. Delatour is an architect who contributed to Haiti´s Master Plan for Tourism several years ago under then-minister of tourism Maryse Penette.

Edward Muller, a member of the consulting council of the UNESCO´s Man and the Biosphere Program, is in the Dominican Republic to participate in an evaluation of Bahia de las Aguilas to determine whether it is feasible to develop tourism projects in that protected area. Mr. Muller, who is also vice president of the World Commission for Protected Areas for the World Conservation Union, is an advocate of the operation of small businesses in protected areas.

Windward Islands Airways International (Winair) temporarily halted its flights between Antigua and Montserrat due to a pilot shortage and maintenance repairs on one of its aircraft. In the interim, Carib Aviation, a regional company that operates Twin Otter and Islander aircraft similar to Winair´s, is servicing the route.
