The American Hotel & Lodging Association’s (AH&LA) Green Assessment Survey results reveal the top 10 green initiatives hotels are enacting, the top 10 green programs hotels can improve upon, motivations and challenges for implementing green lodging practices, and quantifiable measurements of green action being taken around the United States.

A new Chief Executive Officer has been appointed to head the Nevis Tourism authority (NTA). Garcia Thompson-Hendrickson took up office on May 1, 2008.

Carnival Cruise Lines has already experienced a 16 percent uptick in shore excursions sales made online this year compared to last, and the cruise line is expecting a record 1 million shore excursion tickets to be purchased on Carnival.com by the end of 2008.

Windstar Cruises and Majestic America Line both raised daily fuel surcharges from $8.50 per person to $10 per person for all bookings made after May 19.

Wyndham Hotels and Resorts is on the move in the Caribbean. Slated to open early next year is the 251-unit Wyndham Cacique Royal on Pirate’s Bay on the west coast of Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos. The island currently has less than 100 guest rooms in small inns and guesthouses, and drew fewer than 1,000 stayover visitors in 2007, according to the tourist board.

Orbitz Worldwide reported a net loss of $15 million in the first quarter of 2008, compared with $10 million in the year-ago first quarter.
