The Avila Hotel, a boutique resort on Curacao, announced the addition of 68 luxury rooms, located in a new complex to be named the Octagon Wing, as well as a substantial beachside pool and state of the art spa facility. The new wing began construction in April 2005 and its completion and grand opening is scheduled for December 2006.
Iberostar Hotels & Resorts is unveiling a brand-new spa concept, Thai Zen Space, at eight of its 37 Spanish resorts this year. Offering traditional Asian therapies at affordable prices, Thai Zen Space aims to make the luxury Eastern spa experience more accessible to Iberostar´s key markets in Europe.
It wasn´t so long ago that Marriott International had a small presence in Hawaii. Today, with 13 properties that tap multiple source markets plus a successful timeshare division, Marriott has emerged as a key player and a beneficiary of the booming tourism industry in Hawaii. Marriott´s boom times on the Islands come at time when the company is not only expanding across the Asia-Pacific Rim but is also celebrating its 25th anniversary in Hawaii, having entered the market in 1981 with the Maui Marriott, now the Maui Ocean Club.
A $20 million renovation program is slated to begin on the 360-room Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort & Casino on Palm Beach within the next few months, with completion set for spring 2007. Getting a new look will be the lobby and the adjacent Alfresco bar; all public spaces, guest rooms and suites; and the Palms restaurant and bar.
Karisma Hotels, which operates several properties in Mexico, said it plans to open a new, 96-room boutique hotel in Tulum, Mexico. Slated to debut on November 1, the Azul Blue Hotel & Spa, which will also have three restaurants and three bars, intends to create a new level of luxury, according to the hotel´s representative.
The Mexican operator of the Grupo Posadas hotels launched a new five star hotel chain. Posadas plans to build 20 hotels in 10 years under its new concept, called “Lat 19” because of the latitude of the City of Mexico and it will target close to 350,000 travelers from the individual guest segment.
