Copa Airlines, subsidiary of Copa Holdings S.A., has announced it will begin service to three new destinations in Brazil, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago from Panama´s Hub of the Americas. With the new flights, Copa Airlines will offer service to a total of 33 destinations in 21 countries throughout the Americas. The new destinations are:

United Airlines´ top executive said U.S. airlines inevitably will find ways to merge and his company won´t sit idly by if its United Airlines would benefit. His remarks were in a Q & A session and he didn´t give details of when and why he expects mergers to occur or which companies might combine. He said in a September speech that the U.S. government should provide more support for mergers of the nation´s airlines as international rivals grow.

Frontier Airlines has announced the firm order of six new A320 aircraft, as well as the exchange of eight existing A319 aircraft orders for four A318 and four A320 aircraft orders. The amended aircraft order introduces the A320 aircraft to Frontier´s existing fleet plan and extends Frontier´s growth plan into fiscal year 2011 from its previous last delivery date of March 2008.

JetBlue will launch service May 3 between Washington (Dulles) and Las Vegas, Boston and Phoenix, and New York (LaGuardia) and Orlando. JetBlue already had announced new service between New York (Kennedy) and Bermuda beginning May 4, and said it also will begin offering four daily flights between New York (Kennedy) and Portland, Maine, May 23.

TACA is adding a new direct flight between its hubs in El Salvador and Lima, 3 times per week, offering immediate connections from Lima towards Santiago of Chile, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Sao Paulo, Brazil and La Paz in Bolivia. These connections can also be enjoyed by a direct flow of passengers from and to the cities of Washington D.C. and New York.

After undertaking a major restructuring of its operations, the national airline of Jamaica has achieved its best reliability performance in years. For the past two months, Air Jamaica posted a schedule completion reliability rate of 99.3 percent. In addition, the carrier´s on-time performance also showed marked improvement; currently, the carrier is running at an 86 percent on-time rate.
