Air Canada announced that it will add 450,000 seats to and from its Toronto hub this summer, including new daily service to four major international destinations. The expansion is part of a system-wide capacity increase for summer 2011 that will result in additional international, transborder and domestic flying.
JetBlue has added fuel surcharges of $35 each way on flights to and from Puerto Rico and $45 each way on flights to and from other points in the Caribbean. CEO Dan Barger disclosed the surcharges in a conference call with industry analysts to discuss fourth-quarter earnings.
American Airlines will increase nonstop service from Miami to St. Croix and St. Thomas, effective June 10. The carrier will up its service to St. Croix to two daily nonstops and increase its St. Thomas service to three daily nonstops from Miami, up from two. Tourism officials said the the move signifies the highest airlift growth on American to any Caribbean destination except San Juan and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Delta has launched codeshare service with Brazilian airline Gol. Delta is now selling seats on 56 Gol flights between Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia and 15 Brazilian destinations. The number of codeshare markets is expected to increase to more than 30 by summer, Delta said.
WestJet will fly between Toronto and Palm Springs on Wednesdays and Saturdays until April 30, 2011. The outbound flight leaves Toronto at 10:15 a.m. EST and arrives at Palm Springs International Airport at 12:30 p.m. PST. The return flight leaves Palm Springs at 1:15 p.m. and arrives in Toronto at 8:38 p.m.
