Apple Vacations is planning to fill a void in the West Coast market with new nonstop charters on Alaska Airlines from Los Angeles and San Francisco to Cancun starting in 2009. Apple Vacations has not operated charters from the West Coast to Cancun since it ran shared charters from Los Angeles with Pleasant Holidays, via now-defunct ATA Airlines, two years ago.
A majority of Americans (72 percent) plan on staying put this holiday season, according to a new survey from Opinion Research Corporation, an infoGROUP company. While most respondents indicated they hadn’t made holiday travel plans this year to begin with, nearly a quarter changed their existing plans due to current economic conditions.
Frontier Airlines announced a change to its policy regarding same-day confirmed flights. Customers who wish to change to a different flight on the same day of travel will receive a confirmed seat, if available, for a flat fee of $75. Previously, customers were charged the fare difference between the original fare and the current price of the new flight, which in most cases resulted in a fee higher than $75.
A campaign to develop spa and alternative tourism in the border region between Greece and Bulgaria was started by the Greek union of municipalities with mineral springs. The campaign aims to develop a joint tourist product between the municipalities of Thessaloniki, Kilkis, Serres and Pella in northern Greece in cooperation with the Bulgarian municipalities of Kyustendil and Blagoevgrad, in the southwestern part of the country, the Greek newspaper “Makedonia” reported.
