Aeromexico has moved its international flight operations from Terminal 5 to Terminal 2 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), which offers more convenient passenger service with faster customs processing and less waiting time.

Visitors departing Nassau for the U.S. by air have one less obstacle to overcome at Lynden Pindling Airport. Minister of Tourism Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace was on hand recently to mark the removal of a second security screening station, which he described as one of the most annoying things in his life, according to the Nassau Tribune.

The Air Transport Association of America (ATA), the industry trade organization for U.S. airlines, is projecting that 41 million passengers will travel over the upcoming winter holidays on U.S. carriers, representing a 2.5 percent year-over-year decline from the 42 million passengers estimated to have flown during the same period in 2008.

In yet another small sign of an impending turnaround, the number of scheduled domestic and international passengers on U.S. airlines in September 2009 increased by 0.8 percent from September 2008, growing by 0.5 million to 54.7 million, according to the Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). September was the first month with an increase in passengers from the previous year since March 2008 following 17 consecutive months of decreases.

Spirit Airlines has appointed two new executives to its senior management team. Ken McKenzie will join the company as its new chief operating officer and Chris Grazel has been appointed as vice president of flight operations. McKenzie was most recently executive vice president of operations for WestJest, where he previously served as vice president, operational development.

Hilton Worldwide inked a franchise agreement with Hotel Zakrzowek to open a Hilton Garden Inn hotel in Krakow, Poland. Scheduled to open in the spring of 2010, the hotel will become the first Hilton Garden Inn in the country.
