Avanti Destinations is introducing a new line of Mexico programs focused on local culture and boutique hotel stays. “Our new Mexico journeys translate the cultural authenticity of our Europe and Latin America vacations into a vacation that is unlike others in the Mexico market,” said Harry Dalgaard, president of Avanti Destinations.

The Brazil Tourism Board (Embratur) named Flavio Dino, a former federal congressman, as its new president, succeeding Mário Moysés. Named to the new post at a June 29 ceremony, Dino will seek to continue the expansion of the country’s tourism offerings, said Pedro Novais, Brazil’s minister of tourism.

St. Maarten’s tourism ministry named May-Ling Chun interim director of tourism, replacing Regina LaBega, who was named managing director of the Princess Juliana International Airport. Chun brings 20 years of marketing and tourism experience to her new position, having served as regional manager for the St. Maarten Tourist Office in New York and director of operations at St. Maarten’s Oyster Bay Beach Resort.

In November, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers released what’s called a reconnaissance study that deemed the widening economically viable and set the price tag at $35 million. City Manager Jim Scholl said the next step is to get the pulse of the residents.

To celebrate the approval of bio-derived jet fuel for commercial use, BioJet International Ltd.., is releasing 1 billion gallons of renewable jet fuel to long-term contracts. Pricing will be fixed at $2.97 per gallon. Alternatively, the buyer may elect to index at par with petroleum jet fuel with a $3.50 cap and $2.50 floor.
