Roger Dow, head of the U.S. Travel Association, has told the White House that broad policies seeking to cut government travel budgets -- such as the Executive Order signed last week -- can have a chilling effect on legitimate government travel. Dow said it can add extra layers of bureaucracy and make federal employees afraid to travel.

JetBlue Airways has named Michael Stromer to the position of vice president, customer connections. Stromer, formerly director, e-commerce and interactive marketing, will report to Marty St. George, senior vice president, marketing and commercial strategy, and will oversee the value airline's Corporate Social Responsibility, E-Commerce, and Loyalty teams.

Apple Vacations will offer nonstop charter flights from JFK to La Romana Airport in the Dominican Republic. Flights will operate on JetBlue aircraft on Saturdays and Wednesdays, beginning Jan. 14 through Oct. 24.

Barbados will offer island-wide, free wireless Internet access beginning Nov. 11, according to the Barbados Tourism Authority.
