ASTA joined the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) in opposition to a proposed increase in the UK Air Passenger Duty. The tax, while expected to add £2.8 billion ($4.4 billion) in additional taxes to UK government coffers, is also forecast to dampen the demand for travel and ultimately would harm the UK economy and those countries to which the British travel most frequently.
Air France-KLM reported a loss of 809 million euros ($1.06 billion) for 2011. The airline blamed the uncertain economy and high fuel prices, as well as increased competition, for its 2011 performance.
A leading tourism website in the region is reporting a 35 percent surge in bookings compared to last year.
Anguilla's Hotel & Tourism Association has signed an agreement with Regatta Travel Solutions to launch BookAnguilla.com, a new website which will allow consumers to book hotels and villas in Anguilla.
