Choice Hotels International executive Bill Clegg has been named among the new slate of officers elected to the executive board of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), underscoring the global hotel franchisor's expanding presence and commitment to developing travel in the rebounding Caribbean market. The announcement was made following the recent annual general meeting of CHTA in Miami.

Emilio Cueto’s book entitled “The Virgin of the Charity of Cobre in the Soul of Cuba” was launched at El Cobre a few days ago. This book extensively describes how such a Cuban image as the Virgin of the Charity has been the theme of paintings, songs and common situations.

Experts from the Santiago de Cuba-based National Center of Seismological Research (Cenais is the Spanish acronym) are developing a forecast on the vulnerability of high-rises in that city, as well as in Guantánamo and Holguín. Doctor Fernando Guasch explained that such studies include 13 buildings of that kind in this city, which features the highest risk level in terms of earthquakes in Cuba, and properties in the other two territories, with the possibility of reaching Camagüey.
