Barbados Minister of Tourism Gives Big Push to Local Travel Industry

Realizing Barbados potential as a tourism destination was officially launched. As reported in the local media, the Barbados Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Richard Sealy, unveiled the official logo of the National Tourism Host Program (NTHP), called “Barbados Together” at a ceremony held at Queen’s Park.

According to Sealy, “We are driving and coordinating our destination management within the framework of a coherent strategy.”

The Minister explained that the goal of the initiative is to enhance the knowledge base and raise levels of awareness of the importance of the various facets of the country’s tourism product “...among those persons employed or associated with hospitality industry but with the general population as well. That is what we refer to as the Barbados Together element of the program. You can well appreciate this is needed as a matter of concern for the entire country.”

As a small island state, he said, Barbados’ approach to tourism dictates that the tourism belt is not separated from the entire country. “That is fundamental in terms of the program and taking into account that we are all stakeholders in the tourism sector.”

The Minister stressed that given the complexity the island’s tourism sector and to maintain its competitive edge, the NTHP is a timely initiative.
