Old City of Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Historical Center of Macao, and Biblical vestiges in Israel are among the 17 new cultural sites inscribed Friday on the World Heritage List. With the inscriptions, Bahrain, the Republic of Moldova and Bosnia and Herzegovina enter the list for the first time, during the 29th session of the World Heritage Committee currently meeting in Durban, South Africa.

Residents of the Florida Panhandle today begin to assess the havoc wrought by Hurricane Dennis, which cut across the storm-prone area Sunday, scouring beaches, flooding homes and sweeping away roofs. Power lines were downed along Pensacola Beach, and some businesses and homes had their roofs blown away. Initial estimates late Sunday, however, put damage far below that caused by Ivan.

Leisure Canada Inc. announced the signing of surface extension rights for the Company´s Monte Barreto property in Havana. The extension letter was recently signed by Carlos Lage Davila, Vice-President of Council of the State of the Republic of Cuba. The Development Agreement between the Company and the Republic of Cuba establishes deadlines for the completion of a number of preliminary tasks. With the extension now confirmed, the Company is able to proceed towards the Design Development phase and ultimately the Groundbreaking work on the property.

Chinese tourist visits abroad numbered about 29 million in 2004, an increase of 43 percent from the previous year. Director of the China National Tourism Administration, Shao Qiwei, released the figures at a recent national meeting on overseas tourism for 2005.

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) director general Koichiro Matsuura condemned the attacks perpetrated last week in the London public transport system. In a news release issued to several media organizations, Mr. Matsuura expressed UNESCO´s solidarity with Londoners and presented his sincere condolences to the bereaved families and to British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
