Spirit Airlines stopped its eight-month-old service from Fort Lauderdale to the Turks and Caicos earlier this month, according to Rebecca Rivera, communications manager. The carrier had launched daily service from Fort Lauderdale to Providenciales, Turks and Caicos, on February 16, followed three days later by twice-weekly service on Wednesdays and Sundays to Grand Turk.

The new president of the National Association of Hotels & Restaurants (Asonahores) in the Dominican Republic, Luis Lopez has outlined his vision for his two-year term at the helm of the association, emphasizing that Dominican hoteliers need to innovate to ensure the sustainable development of the industry. The European Commission will propose new limits on the size of hand luggage authorized on board flights out of the EU’s airports, the bloc’s transport commissioner said Wednesday. If approved, the new measures would also restrict the amount of liquid allowed in hand luggage and introduce new provisions in check-in procedures, Transport Commissioner Jacques Barrot said, without giving more details.

Cheryl Hudak, owner of Travel Dimensions, Inc. in Boardman, Ohio was elected as the president and CEO of the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) at THETRADESHOW held last week in Orlando. Mrs. Hudak will now begin her year-long term as ASTA’s national president. Previously, Mrs. Hudak served as national vice president.

Continuing a year-long series of aircraft and technology upgrades designed to heighten customer care, Caribbean Star Airlines today took delivery of its newest aircraft, a state-of-the-art Bombardier Q300 Dash-8 Model 315. The new 50-seat aircraft, which is the third of four brand-new Q300s that will be added to the Caribbean Star fleet in 2006, will begin service pending certification from the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA).
