The United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has described Santo Domingo’s Las Américas airport as the safest in the Caribbean region. The announcement came during a meeting of Dominican Airport Authority (Aerodom) and the Special Airport Security Corps (CESA).
Air Jamaica’s new nonstop flights from Ft. Lauderdale to Barbados make it easier for value-conscious vacationers to take a summer break in a Garden Suite at the Treasure Beach Hotel. Located on the Barbados Gold Coast, the 36-suite Treasure Beach recently emerged from a six-month, $2.5-million rejuvenation that upgraded every suite and added three premium penthouse suites with private plunge pools.
Planned upgrades will include facility enhancements to ensure visitors’ comfort and ease of travel upon arrival and/or departure in keeping with the destination’s upscale appeal, a release stated.
Spirit Vacations is offering room upgrades, kids stay free specials, reduced rates and other hotel value-added inclusions on certain packages. Packages include roundtrip air travel on Spirit Airlines, hotel accommodations, roundtrip airport/hotel transfers (with Caribbean vacations), hotel taxes and service charges and Customer Care Service.
There is mounting concern among Jamaica’s tourism community that Air Jamaica’s cancellation of UK services could be detrimental to its travel trade with Europe. Air Jamaica pulled the plug on its Kingston-Montego Bay to London route the other week, after reporting $27 million losses last year. Virgin Atlantic will take over the route on October 30th through a codeshare deal.
