The beachfront, all-inclusive RIU Yucatan, located in Playa del Carmen, Mexico will start a $10 million renovation this April. Rooms, restaurants and even the swimming pool will receive makeovers. Built in 1997, the hotel´s doors will reopen July 2005. RIU Yucatan will look and feel like a new resort, stated Miguel Violan, Communications Manager at RIU Hotels and Resorts.

The expansion of NH Hotels, the Spanish chain, is reaching out to MERCOSUR nations -Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, plus Bolivia and Chile- and getting stronger in the Caribbean, said Gabriele Burgio, the company´s president and CEO. Mr. Burgio indicated his chain has sported good growth numbers in those nations for a third year in a row, especially in Argentina, where NH Hotels has chalked up a spectacular 35.3 percent increase in the first quarter of this year.
Group Metro has just unveiled a plan to talk customers and associates into buying suites in its hotels, many of them as large as European-style flats. Payment conditions include the possibility of direct financing options granted by the company without any banking intervention whatsoever. The new modality was informed by Metro´s General Manager Luis Jose Asili who explained the company has already sold 40 of the 126 rooms up for grabs.

Highland Hospitality Corporation, a lodging real estate investment trust, or REIT, announced today that it has acquired the 332-room Tucancun Beach Resort and Villas located in Cancun, Mexico, for approximately $31 million, plus customary closing adjustments, or approximately $93,400 per room. The Company purchased the hotel from a private seller based in Mexico. Barceló Hotels and Resorts, a global lodging company based in Spain, will manage the beachfront property as an all-inclusive resort under the Barceló brand name.
