Breezes Runaway Bay Resort & Golf Club in Runaway Bay on Jamaica’s north shore will be closed until December 15 for a $20-million expansion that will add 32 rooms and suites, raising the total room count to 266. The all-inclusive resort will reopen with five restaurants, three swimming pools and 40 suites with private plunge pools.

Hyatt Aruba Resort and Casino Hyatt has invested $20 million in comprehensive renovations for Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort & Casino in the Caribbean. The stylish redesign, due for completion in Spring 2007, will be led by Hirsch Bedner Associates.

Couples Resorts adding a fifth resort to its brand, which be situated in the parish of Trelawny, Jamaica. The 370-room Trelawny resort is estimated to be a $57-million investment and will be built on 38-acres of land owned by Lee Issa, Couples Resorts´ chairman. The construction is estimated to be completed in 2008.

The Divi Group, which operates nine Divi Resorts on six Caribbean islands, as well as two all inclusive resorts in Aruba, has announced that it will build a new beachfront all inclusive resort on the Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire. Construction of the resort is expected to begin in spring 2007, with completion scheduled for the end of 2008.

Reggae Sunsplash, the world´s largest and most important music festival devoted exclusively to reggae music, recently returned to Jamaica –its place of origin- after a nine-year hiatus. The four-day event held on August 3 through 6 hosted over 50,000 guests at Richmond Estate, St. Ann, featuring performances by reggae legends UB40, Damian “Junior Gong” Marley (son of the Reggae legend Bob Marley), Maxi Priest, Morgan Heritage, Steel Pulse and others.

Sheraton, run by U.S. hotel and leisure company Starwood, is to open a new five-star hotel, to be located in Puerto Madryn, eastern Argentina. The announcement was made by the local municipal authorities.
