Havana.- Cuba’s tourism industry is counting on a dramatic increase in event tourism during the course of 2002 as part of a policy aimed at promoting this kind of activity.
Sources close to this sector on the island nation said the country is hoping to host over 400 international events this year, thus laying bare the country’s potentials as a suitable destination for congresses and incentives.
Hamilton._ Bermuda´s E-Commerce Conference 2001 (eCC), already put back to March 2002 from last October due to the fallout from September 11, has been cancelled.
Organisers say that despite keynote speakers including Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, fewer registrations than expected have forced them to make the decision. The event, first held in 1999 and due to have been staged at the Sonesta Beach Resort on March 20-22, is now likely to resume in 2003.
