LAN and TAM have started the technical and preliminary processes for their integration into LATAM Airlines Group (LATAM). With the advisory of international consultants, such processes aim at preparing both companies for the merger, becoming the leading airline in the region.
JetBlue Airways Corporation reported net income for the third quarter was $35 million, or $0.11 per diluted share. Excluding a one-time item, JetBlue reported net income of $38 million, or $0.12 per diluted share, compared to JetBlue's third quarter 2010 net income of $59 million, or $0.18 per diluted share.
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCCL) reported net income of $399 million, or $1.82 per share, versus $350.2 million, or $1.61 per share, in 2010. Results include a $0.08 per share mark-to-market revaluation loss on the company's WTI fuel option portfolio. Absent the revaluation charge, third quarter earnings per share totaled $1.90.
Norwegian (NAS) reported third quarter 2011 operating results of 1 BNOK. This is the company's best ever quarterly results. The company’s overall cost is significantly reduced by 10 percent. Brand new aircraft have saved the company as much as 47 MNOK in fuel costs compared to the same quarter previous year.
AMR Corporation, parent of American Airlines, reported a net loss of $162 million in the third quarter, blaming the volatility of crude oil prices and foreign exchange rates. Because its fuel hedging was ineffective, American said it paid $653 million more for fuel in the third quarter of 2011 than it would have a year ago.
Jamaican tourism minister Edmund Bartlett has welcomed the UK government’s decision to reduce Air Passenger Duty (APD) on long-haul flights from Northern Ireland describing the decision as “heartening” and “a very positive sign".
