German airlines Air Berlin and TUIfly are in advanced talks for a cross-shareholding agreement, according to a Reuters report. TUIfly is owned by German tourism giant TUI.
The U.S. Department of Transportation issued its final order to Baltia Air Lines authorizing the carrier to engage in foreign non-stop air transportation of persons, property and mail from John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York to Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg, Russia. Based at Terminal 4 at JFK, Baltia is the only Part 121 American Air Carrier being developed in the U.S. today.
JetBlue Airways announces a special travel deal for its loyal TrueBlue customers traveling between Boston and the West Coast, including Denver, Las Vegas, L.A./Long Beach, Oakland, San Diego, San Francisco or Seattle.
Virgin America announced changes to the airline’s baggage fee structure, as well as its online change and cancellation fee. The airline has lowered its fee for changes or cancellations made online at www.virginamerica.com from $75 to $50. It has also changed its baggage fee structure to a flat, simple rate for all checked items.
Mexico’s Grupo Mexicana de Aviacion is leasing 25 Boeing 717-200 planes for use by its low-cost carrier, Click Mexicana, the airplane manufacturer reported. Financial terms of the multiyear agreement were not disclosed.
On April 28, Air Berlin will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Air Berlin currently operates nonstop service from Miami and Fort Myers to Düsseldorf. In April, Air Berlin will operate four flights a week from New York and beginning in May increase it to daily service. In addition three flights a week from Los Angeles and Vancouver also begin operating in May.
