Low-cost carrier Air Comet, which flies between Spain and several Latin American countries, announced Monday it is ceasing operations after a British judge ordered its fleet of leased aircraft impounded.

Locair, an air taxi airline based in Fort Lauderdale, has announced updates to its schedule to the Bahamas from Tampa Bay. The new service, set to start Friday Dec. 18, will be the only nonstop service to the Bahamas from Tampa Bay, and will also be providing new flights to Governor’s Harbor, on Eleuthera, in the Bahamas starting Feb. 22, 2010, from Fort Lauderdale and St. Petersburg-Tampa Bay.
JetBlue Airways has applied for authority from the U.S. Department of Transportation to provide new international service to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Boston’s Logan International Airport.
AirTran Airways has launched non-stop flights to Nassau, Bahamas, from Atlanta, Baltimore/Washington and Orlando. The new service makes its debut alongside the low fare carrier’s new flights to Key West, Fla., which also just started.
Operations have resumed at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston, after being closed down overnight (Wednesday), following a landing mishap involving an American Airlines aircraft, which presumably overshot the runway.
