Lufthansa is expanding its automatic check-in service approximately 400 routes within the Schengen Area -- an area comprised of 26 European countries that operate very much like a single state for international travel.

AENA has confirmed that alternative airlines have managed to accommodate 22,266 of the passengers left stranded by the collapse of Spanair on January 28, 29 and 30, according to ThinkSpain.com.

Copa Airlines said that it will begin nonstop service in June 2012 from Panama to four new destinations -- Recife, Brazil; Liberia (Guanacaste), Costa Rica; Las Vegas, Nev.; and the island of Curacao.

American Airlines will start a new Miami-Barcelona flight on April 3. The flight will operate five times a week until June 14 when it will operate daily. Effective March 25, Iberia will add a second MIA-MAD flight four times per week. American will continue to operate one daily MIA-MAD flight.

New, daily nonstop flights have been announced to the popular Bahamas beach destination Nassau Paradise Island. The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) 30th annual Caribbean Marketplace is currently underway at the Atlantis Resort, with hundreds of delegates meeting for business.

Cayman Airways is in the midst of establishing arrangements to add two destinations to its international repertoire, including fulfilling a long-standing desire to tap a potentially lucrative and expanding commercial passenger market in Panama.
