Tobago received a record number of visitors in 2013 — more than 1 million, and a large portion of those visitors came from nearby Trinidad. According to new data from Tobago’s government, more than half a million Trinidadians spent more than $18.3 million USD during their stays.

A boom in ecotourism has already made it the fastest-growing segment and the global tourism market’s most dynamic sector. This movement appeared at the end of the 1980's and has attracted such much interest at the international level, that the UN designated 2002 as “Eco-tourism year.”

St. Maarten has launched a large scale "Unleash Summer" marketing campaign to attract visitors from the Canadian and South Florida markets. In an effort to support island businesses and hoteliers, this push is aimed to increase arrivals during the off-peak season.
