JetBlue Airways has appointed David Clark as chief people officer. Clark, previously vice president-human resources at Nike, will oversee the value airline’s People department, including recruitment, benefits, compensation, compliance, diversity and other services for JetBlue’s 12,000 crewmembers.
JetBlue Airways Corporation reported operating income for the second quarter at $76 million, resulting in a 9.4 percent operating margin, compared to operating income of $21 million and a 2.4 percent operating margin in the second quarter of 2008.
According to an AOL News report, Hacienda Napoles, once the place where notorious drug kingpin Pablo Escobar and his henchman committed crimes, now welcomes tourists who sunbathe by the pools and children who play among the concrete dinosaurs Escobar erected years ago. Last year, the park’s first, more than 50,000 people visited, NPR reported.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported that airlines continue to report losses during the period through mid-2009 and do not expect conditions to improve until year end, at the earliest.
The U.S. Tour Operators Association (USTOA) launched a public relations campaign encouraging Americans to travel. “We’re telling people that, despite the recession, Americans have a unique opportunity to travel this year,” said USTOA President Bob Whitley.
Naples Bay Resort has appointed Kerry Mitruska as senior sales manager for the luxury property on Fifth Avenue in Naples, Fla. Mitruska was previously vice president sales and marketing for Coral Hospitality of Naples, Fla.
