Montserrat is open for business and remains a safe destination for visitors, despite the increased activity of Soufriere Hills volcano. In fact, now is a perfect time to visit and see the geological phenomenon, according to Ernestine Cassell, Montserrat’s director of tourism.

The Sandals Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sandals Resorts International, is teaming up with American Airlines and its regional carrier, American Eagle, to fund the delivery of much-needed supplies to earthquake victims in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Carnival Cruise Lines has shipped more than 2,000 pounds of relief supplies to Haiti to assist those affected by the devastating earthquake. Donated by Carnival employees, the supplies include water, blankets, diapers, protein bars and other non-perishable food items and are being shipped and distributed to Haiti by the University of Miami’s Project Medishare, a disaster relief organization.

UAL Corporation, the holding company for United Airlines, reported a fourth quarter net loss of $176 million, or $1.05 per basic share, excluding non-cash, net mark-to-market hedge gains and certain accounting charges, narrowing its net loss by $391 million compared to the fourth quarter of 2008.

JetBlue reported a profit for the fourth quarter 2009, its fourth consecutive profitable quarter. For the full year 2009, JetBlue reported net income of $58 million, a significant improvement over last year’s net loss of $85 million. The airline also reported net income for the fourth quarter of $11 million, compared to a fourth quarter 2008 net loss of $58 million.

Choice Hotels International, Inc. promoted Anne Hendrick to vice president of human resources and administration for the worldwide lodging company. Mrs. Hendrick will report to Patrick Cimerola, senior vice president of human resources and administration.
