Waterford Hotel Group named Duane Schroder as general manager of the 393-room Hilton Hartford. As general manager, Schroder is responsible for all of the hotel’s operations, sales and administration, as well as the more than 200 associates employed at the property.
During a joint board of directors meeting of the North American and European regions of Airports Council International (ACI-NA and ACI Europe), U.S., European, and Canadian airport directors discussed current aviation security issues with John Pistole, the recently appointed Administrator of the US Transportation Security Administration (USA TSA), Daniel Calleja, the Director of Air Transport for the European Commission (EC) and Kevin McGarr, President and CEO of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA). Board members of the Canadian Airports Council (CAC) also attended the meeting.
Solmar Hotels & Resorts appointed Chef Sergio Howland as director of food and beverage for Grand Solmar Land’s End Resort & Spa, in Los Cabos.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported that international scheduled passenger traffic results for August increased 6.4 percent. That was slower than the 9.5 percent increase in July, and was partially distorted by the comparison to August 2009, by which time markets were already expanding rapidly in a post-recession rebound. When adjusted for seasonality, traffic volumes for passenger traffic fell by 1 percent and cargo by 0.8 percent compared to July.
Nearly 15 percent more U.S. travelers flew to Mexico in June 2010 than during the same month in 2009, according to recently released U.S. Department of Commerce figures, demonstrating that international travel to Mexico continues its upward trend.
