Online travel website Expedia.com recently added a boutique selection of new luxury and river cruise booking options to its cruise portfolio. With the new additions, Expedia now offers eight luxury and three river cruise brands.

Pleasant Holidays added 36 Caribbean resorts to its product line for 2012-13, bringing the total number of properties in its portfolio to 182 on 23 islands.

It’s been a heady year for travel to Cuba, as a number of operators have rushed to offer programs that bring Americans and Cubans together on cultural exchange trips. A policy change by the Obama administration in January restored the people-to-people category of travel, reversing a 2004 decision that halted such programs.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed civil penalties of $1,042,500 against Memphis-based Pinnacle Airlines, Inc., for operating aircraft that did not comply with federal regulations. Specific allegations include allowing flight crews to perform maintenance tasks.

The Bermuda Department of Tourism will celebrate its annual “Feel the Love Month,” from Jan. 16 to March 3, 2012. The promotion offers romantic couples opportunities to enjoy the island’s cultural attractions through dedicated daily activities, including a “love” cruise, champagne and strawberries museum reception, and salsa dancing nights.

After announcing in November that New York City is set to have a record number of hotel rooms by year’s end, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and NYC & Company Board of Directors Chair and Metropolitan Museum of Art President Emily Rafferty announced that the city will reach 50.2 million visitors by the end of 2011, achieving the goal of attracting 50 million visitors by 2012 one full year ahead of schedule.
