The issues of visa restrictions and lack of direct air services are among the obstacles the Chinese say are hindering Jamaica from gaining a foothold in its emerging tourist market. Over the last decade, 11,104 visitors came from the Republic of China to Jamaica.

German flag-carrier Lufthansa was forced to cancel the vast majority of its flights yesterday after a strike by ground staff. Just 32 flights were scheduled to depart, out of the 1,700 originally planned. German airports affected are Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf and Hamburg.

Boeing has begun replacing batteries on its fleet of grounded 787 Dreamliners following approval of the modified design from the Federal Aviation Authority. All 50 aircraft presently in service around the world have been grounded since earlier this year following a series of onboard incidents.
