Grand Isle Villas, a collection of 78 ocean and golf course villas in Great Exuma, the Bahamas, has changed its name to Grand Isle Resort to reflect a series of property upgrades. In addition to the name change, other modifications taking place include the debut of a Kids Club on December 15, the expansion of the pool area, an expanded water sports offerings, and the addition of a spa, which is slated to open in summer 2007.
Ryanair will announce a third base in Spain by the end of 2007 and fly twice as many passengers to the world’s second biggest tourist destination by 2010, Chief Executive Michael O’Leary said on last week. The Irish airline started flying to Spain in 2002 with a base in Girona, near Barcelona, and is setting up a second permanent hub in Madrid, where it will keep three planes and employ around 500 extra staff.
British Airways has posted a fall in second-quarter profits. The suspected terrorist plot to target airports cost British Airways £100 million, cutting into the flag carrier’s profits. “It is not much bigger than we thought it would be the impact to our bookings was noticeable. And it was very disappointing,” CEO of British Airways, Willie Walsh said.
Travelocity has joined with the Caribbean Tourism Organization to launch “a booking tool engine for the new CTO/Caribbean Hotel Association Super Web site” that will debut in mid-November, according to Tracey Weber, CEO, North America for Travelocity. Weber, who addressed a session at the 29th annual Caribbean Tourism Conference recently held in the Bahamas, said the site would handle bookings for flights, hotels and packages.
Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico, S.A. de C.V. (GAP) announced earlier this week that the budget was approved for the extraordinary investment in the Los Cabos International Airport at the Company’s shareholder meeting that took place this morning. The investment is for approximately 650 million Mexican pesos and comes on the heels of the investment outlined in GAP’s Master Development Plan for the 2005-2009 period.
A former jail in Boston’s Beacon Hill section is getting a new lease on life as a 300-room luxury boutique hotel set to open in summer 2007. The Liberty Hotel, a $120 million hotel project located at 215 Charles Street, will feature 10 suites with views of the Charles River, 6,000 square feet of meetings space, fitness facilities and a business center.
