Marriott International added new functionality to its branded website, www.marriott.com that enables travelers to book air transportation and car rentals with or without Marriott hotel rooms. Travelers using the Marriott Flexrez functionality can book one-way and multiple destination options, as well as roundtrip flights with 60 airlines, including most major U.S. carriers, Marriott said. Marriott Flexrez also accepts frequent flyer numbers so that travelers can earn credit for flights.

The Sydney Olympic Park Authority and Accor have wrapped up an agreement for the construction of the Sofitel Sydney Olympic Park located opposite Accor´s existing Novotel and Ibis hotel complex. The new Sofitel is scheduled to open mid-2008 at a total development cost in excess of 50 million Australian dollars.

The Sunset Jamaica Grande recently had the opportunity to showcase its multi-million dollar renovation in pure style. The recently reopened, all-inclusive 730-room resort was the host hotel for the Annual JTB Fall Fly-In. More than 240 travel agents from all over the United States were guests of the Jamaica Tourist Board and Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort from September 30 to October 3, 2005. The resort is now fully operational following its multimillion dollar rebuild and refurbishment.

In keeping with its environmental efforts to remain in the green, Blue Horizons Garden Resort in Grenada has introduced a no smoking in-room policy applicable to all 32 accommodations. This new policy does not make Blue Horizons a “no smoking” resort. Guests, however, may smoke on the patios or in any open-air space throughout the property. “We instituted this policy in order to keep the air in our guest rooms clean and fresh, which is right in line with our efforts to enact ´green´ measures throughout the property,” said Arnold Hopkin, owner/manager of Blue Horizons Garden Resort, a Green Globe benchmarked hotel for its impressive environmental initiatives.
