InterContinental has announced that it will rebrand the InterContinental Tequendama Bogota as the Crowne Plaza Tequendama Bogota, Colombia, effective January 2007. The Tequendama hotel, which has been operating for over 50 years, is considered to be one of the most renowned hotels in Bogota, Colombia, and has been notorious for hosting celebrities, several dignitaries and world leaders from across the globe.
Marriott International, the well-known American megabuck hotel chain, announced this week intentions to open a new property in Costa Rica in the year 2008. The new hotel, located on the Pacific Coast, will operate under the name of JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa and will have 310 guest rooms, an 18-hole golf course, an equestrian center and many tennis courts, among other facilities.
A couple of months from now, RIU will open its newest resort –RIU Vallarta- in Puerto Vallarta, ramping up the number of rooms in Mexico to 6,035. The five-star RIU Vallarta will feature 550 deluxe guestrooms and suites under the all-inclusive concept and the legendary customized service the company is known for.
Playa Hotels & Resorts, the company formed earlier this year by Spain-based Grupo Barceló, acquired the 332-room Barceló Tucancun Beach Hotel from Highland Hospitality Corp. for $38 million. The Cancun property had been severely damaged by Hurricane Wilma and reopened in April after a multimillion-dollar repair project.
