Meliá Hotels International today announced results for the first half of 2014 in which the hotel industry showed signs of greater strength, mainly thanks to sustained economic growth in numerous markets

Malliouhana, an Auberge Resort, will reopen on Anguilla on Nov. 1, following a three-year closure and extensive renovations. Reservations are now being taken, with rates starting at $525 per room, per night, double.

The 44-room resort sits on a 25-acre site, overlooking Meads Bay and Turtle Cove with views of the Caribbean Sea. The property was purchased in February 2013 by Chicago-based AJ Capital Partners, which retained Auberge Resorts as a management company.

The second phase of the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel renovation will be completed on Dec. 1, unveiling 319 guestrooms and suites, Puerto Rico's first Hammam spa, two pool lounges with butler service and a second restaurant from chef Juan Jose Cuevas. Built in 1919 by Frederick William Vanderbilt, the historic San Juan hotel is in the final stage of completing a $200 million redo. The first phase opened in October 2012 and included event spaces and 1919, the lobby bar and signature restaurant also helmed by Cuevas. Hyatt Hotels and Playa Hotels & Resorts are planning to introduce the Hyatt Ziva brand to Cancun. Formerly Dreams Cancun, the resort’s multi-million dollar renovation began June 1, and it is expected to reopen in late 2015 as Hyatt Ziva Cancun.
