The World Travel Expo will take place in Mexico for a third year in a row from October 5 to 7; however organizers have already confirmed the attendance of representatives from some 20 countries. Last year, this superb travel show set new record highs in number of visitors (11.7 million) and revenues ($4.5 billion). Mexico is the second most visited travel destination in the Western Hemisphere and one of the world’s top ten most sought-after countries.
The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) has unveiled a comprehensive and impressive program for its Seventh Annual Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development (STC-7) which will take place April 26 through 29, 2005, at the Hilton Tobago Golf & Spa Resort in Scarborough, Tobago. The program includes general sessions at which participants will discuss pertinent sustainable tourism issues relating to the conference theme, Keeping the Right Balance - Sustainable Tourism Through Diversity; highly interactive and stimulating workshops to complement the general sessions; and exciting study tours through which participants will explore the diversity of Tobago.
Mexican suppliers, and U.S. agents and operators, are gearing up for the Mexico Tourism Tianguis 2005 tourism trade fair, to be held in Acapulco April 10 to 13. According to Mexico´s tourism board, a study of last year´s Tianguis found that 45% of international buyers´ annual sales, along with and 32% of Mexican supplier sales, were a product of negotiations at the annual trade fair, which attracted 1,500 Mexican suppliers and 994 international buyers in 2004.
Colombian authorities expressed to World Tourism Organization’s Secretary-General Francesco Frangialli, during his recent visit to Bogota, the South American country’s intention to organize the next General Assembly of the WTO, scheduled for 2007. Colombia’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Tourism, Jorge Humberto Botero, voiced that view at the end of a meeting between Mr. Frangialli and Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, in which the two parts inked an agreement aimed at strengthening the promotion and advance of Colombia’s travel industry.
A group of experts from Latin America will huddle within the framework of the upcoming International Travel Fair in Berlin to hold a forum on the actions that must be implemented to beef up tourist security in that region. The forum entitled Healthy Growth For Latin America: Peoples, Cultures and Nature Adventure (Ambition, Reality and Future), will unfold during the Market, Trend and Innovation Congress that will take place during the Berlin event from March 11 to 15.
The Travel Professionals of Color (TPOC) in the U.S. will hold on April 27 through May 1 what it calls a one of a kind multi-cultural travel conference at the Adams Mark Hotel in Denver, Colorado, primarily focused on how to reach four markets: African Americans, Native Americans, Asian Americans, and Hispanics. Suppliers and Vendors interested in reaching minority travel agents and their clients have been invited to purchase a booth at this trade show that will gather over 200 agents.
