In a continued effort to entice the single traveler, Silversea Cruises is again reducing its single supplement on more than 20 sailings in 2011. The discounted single supplement is 10 percent-25 percent above the double-occupancy fare, said Silversea.
InnerSea Discoveries, a new small-ship line that is a sister company to American Safari Cruises, plans to begin operations in Alaska in May. The company says its four seven- to 14-night itineraries are designed to take advantage of the wildlife in Alaska. Rather than just being an observer, guests are invited to participate in daily included activities, such as kayaking, hiking, stand-up paddle boarding, fishing, exploration by small water craft and more.
MSC Cruises’ MSC Poesia is finishing its inaugural Canada/New England season and will depart Quebec City on Oct. 23 for its nine-night repositioning cruise to Fort Lauderdale. Upon its return to Fort Lauderdale on Nov. 1, MSC Poesia begins three-, seven- and 10-night roundtrip Caribbean cruises.
As many as 21 Central America and the Caribbean Tourism ministers will come to the country to participate in the 17th annual cruise ship conference next week, hosted by the Florida and the Caribbean Cruises Association (FCCA). Tourism Deputy minister Magaly Toribio said the event is from Monday to Friday next week in Santo Domingo’s Jaragua and Melía hotels, with cruise line executives, tour operators, travel and ship agents and suppliers attending.
The Port of Miami set a new world record for cruise traffic in Fiscal Year 2009-2010 with approximately 4.15 million passengers traveling through the Port over the last year. Port officials attributed an especially strong summer season to the record numbers as dollar conscious vacationers opted for cruise vacations as a way to get high value for their travel budget.
