Negotiations for the privatization of Air Jamaica are progressing well and the entire process is expected to be completed by end of June 2009, according to Sen. Don Wehby, Minister (without portfolio) in the Ministry of Finance, who has responsibility for the airline.
In its first-quarter financial report, wholesaler TUI Travel PLC reported that demand is improving, but not on this side of the Atlantic. European customers who had delayed the purchase of vacation packages in the early booking season have “started to return to the market,” TUI Travel said.
According to the Trinidad & Tobago Express, Winston Agard, a former chief executive officer of the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT), says he “cannot recall” the inclusion of a 59- or 60-room hotel in the original design for the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain.
Frontier Airlines Holdings, Inc. reported an operating profit of $1.5 million for the month of February, Frontier’s fourth consecutive monthly operating profit. Frontier also reported a consolidated net loss of $3.2 million for the month. The results were filed in the company’s Monthly Operating Report for February 2009.
Carnival Corp. & plc reported net income of $260 million, or 33 cents per share, on revenues of $2.9 billion for its first quarter ended Feb. 28. That compares to profits of $236 million and 30 cents per share in the first quarter of 2008, on revenues of $3.2 billion.
CNN is reporting that Britain’s competition watchdog has ordered airport operator BAA to sell three of its seven airports, including two in London.
