Baha Mar, the largest single-phase resort development in the Western Hemisphere, has become a powerful driver of the Bahamian economy, and accounted for an estimated 5 percent of the Commonwealth’s annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2011 and 2012.
Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders are being urged to support a loan application by the regional airline, LIAT, for funds to undertake a re-fleeting exercise so as to sustain its operations and improve services. The statement gave no details regarding the costs of the re-fleeting exercise, but LIAT said it was seeking to acquire French-made 48- and 63-seat aircraft.
