American Airlines has launched a new codeshare agreement with Sao Paulo-based TAM Airlines, increasing American’s network connectivity in Brazil and further enhancing its relationship with LATAM Airlines Group.

International Airlines Group has secured firm orders and options for up to 220 Airbus A320 family short-haul aircraft – up to 120 of these for its subsidiary Vueling. The new aircraft will enable the Barcelona-based airline to replace some of its existing A320 fleet and expand its business.

Prime minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, said that the fuel subsidy given to at least one regional airline remains a concern for shareholder governments of LIAT.

AMR Corporation, the parent company of American Airlines, and US Airways have come out fighting against the US justice department following the decision to oppose the merger between the two.
