The US Federal Aviation Administration on Wednesday lifted restrictions on Ecuadorian airlines flying to U.S. airports by raising Ecuador´s safety rating.
“The Federal Aviation Administration said it is upgrading Ecuador aviation security level to Category 1,” the U.S. Embassy in Quito said in a statement.
In response to passenger demand, Air Jamaica will increase the number of flights it operates out of select destinations, this summer.
During the period June 26 to September 10, Air Jamaica will operate extra flights between Kingston and Montego Bay and New York as well as between Grenada and New York.
JetBlue Airways has indicated that airline´s “return to profitability” program may show results in forthcoming quarters.
“Nothing is assured until the books are closed,” company chairman David Neeleman reportedly said at the shareholders´ meeting. “But we expect to make money in the second quarter and in the third quarter and the fourth quarter as well.”
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport commissioned a long-awaited fifth runway May 16 with two ceremonial flights and will open it fully for commercial operations May 27 –an addition it expects will substantially reduce delays at the world´s busiest airport and justify the $1.3 billion cost.
Delta, the airport´s largest carrier with more than 40 percent of its customers flying to, from or through the airport, said it expects the runway to immediately improve the airports´ arrival and departure rates by 25 percent to 35 percent.
Aruba´s Tiara Air has begun operations from the Beatriz Queen International Airport after receiving the Air Operating Certificate (AOC).
Tiara Air will offer scheduled flights between Aruba and the islands of Curacao and Bonaire, plus additional legs to a couples of cities in Venezuela.
A month after launching flights to Faro and Amsterdam Jet2 announced another new route, this time to the Spanish sunshine holiday spot of Malaga. With flights taking off on March 26 next year, the airline is the first to go on sale for summer 2007.
Malaga is already a hugely popular destination from Manchester and Leeds Bradford and the airline knows the route will be a success, especially as travelers can book so far in advance and from just £39.99 one way including taxes.
