Aeromexico, Mexico’s largest airline, today announced its expansion of service from Chicago continues with inauguration of flights from O’Hare International Airport to Guadalajara November 14, providing daily non-stop service to one of Mexico’s great colonial cities. Guadalajara is Aeromexico’s fourth non-stop destination from Chicago, with service already to Mexico City and Durango and the new Leon service beginning November 10.

IATA regional director for the Americas, Humberto Rivero, has called on Caribbean governments to involve the airlines in the process of “creating a brand new Caribbean.” A veteran of the airline industry, Mr. Rivero attributed the region’s challenges with airlift to a lack of understanding by the policymakers of the airline business, which, he said, puts the Caribbean’s main economic engine of growth in harm’s way.

Caribbean Star Airlines has reinstated plans to offer new service to and from Curacao. The new service, which is on sale now, is for travel beginning December 1. This will operate daily, creating an attractive new air link between Trinidad and Curacao. To celebrate the launch of the new service, Caribbean Star is offering special introductory fares starting at just $69 each way for flights between Trinidad and Curacao.

Funjet, the low-cost airline, said it will add charter service to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, from Milwaukee, Minneapolis/St. Paul and St. Louis. New charter service schedules include Milwaukee from February 2 to April 6, Minneapolis/St. Paul from December 22 to March 30, and St. Louis from February 7 to April 6, as well as from May 20 through August.

Bolivian airline LAB will be relaunched into the commercial aviation market with a new image –featuring more Bolivian cultural elements- and with a 25-percent fee reduction. The airline reintroduced the route to Sucre with five weekly flights and added departures to Santa Cruz-Cochabamba-La Paz, from two to three daily frequencies.

Senior official from Colombian airline Avianca informed this week they expect their aircraft to resume all London and Paris operations in the first quarter of 2007, a couple of routes the carrier had scrapped a year ago due to financial problems. The same sources said Avianca is expecting the arrival of 30 new jetliners, with Avianca taking up 23 planers and the remaining seven units going to Vipsa of Ecuador, Ocean Air of Brazil and Wayra of Peru, the company’s three affiliates.
